How Do You Rebuild Self-Esteem After Years of Self-Doubt?
The inner critic wasn’t born with you, and it doesn’t have to stay in charge. Real change comes from understanding where that voice came from and slowly, honestly, building something kinder in its place.
You can be successful by every external measure and still hear a voice telling you it’s not enough. Low self-esteem rarely arrives loudly. It shows up in apologies you didn’t need to make, in shrinking before you’ve even tried, in saying yes when you mean no.
Often, the inner critic was once someone else’s voice. Together you’ll trace it gently, understand what it’s been trying to protect, and start building something kinder underneath.
Borrowing from the familiar CBT toolkit inside warm conversation, together you’ll notice the patterns that keep self-doubt alive and practice, at your pace, the small, real shifts that grow into a different relationship with yourself.
This isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about coming home to who you’ve been all along.
Is Self-Esteem Therapy Right for You?
Low self-esteem rarely announces itself. It hides under achievement, caretaking, and being the one who holds it together for everyone else.
You're exhausted by the voice that says you're not enough
You shrink, apologize, or second-guess yourself in your own life
You want to feel like yourself, not a performance
Mariann’s practice is open to adults of all genders, sexual orientations, and backgrounds, across the adult lifespan. Whoever you are, you’re welcome here.
What Questions Do Clients Ask?
What if I look fine on the outside?
Most of the clients Mariann works with do. Low self-esteem is often invisible from the outside, hiding under achievement, caretaking, or being ‘the strong one.’ You don’t have to prove you’re struggling to deserve support.
Can self-esteem actually change after decades of feeling this way?
Yes. The inner critic wasn’t born with you, it was learned, which means a new relationship with yourself can be built. It takes time and real conversation, not affirmations.
Do you use CBT-style tools in this work?
Yes, where they fit. Mariann borrows from the familiar CBT toolkit and weaves it into conversation rather than assigning homework. She’ll help you notice the patterns that keep self-doubt alive and try small, real shifts you can actually live with.
I've done therapy before and nothing changed. Why would this be different?
Often it’s because the work stayed at the surface, techniques instead of trust. The work here goes slower, noticing what actually gets in the way, and building a relationship that can hold real change.
Will you push me to be 'more confident'?
No. Performing confidence you don’t feel is exhausting, and it’s usually part of the problem. The goal is to feel more like yourself, not more like someone else.
